With the right installation, automotive film can be installed to look like a well finished surface. When not installed by an experienced installer, contamination, over stretched panels, exposed paint, lifting edges or any unnecessary knife marks can be left behind.
When choosing a car window tinting company, in addition to checking online ratings and prices, other factors need to be considered. In case of problems, the company must demonstrate a controlled installation process, proven materials, experienced technicians, and a clear sense of responsibility.
| Evaluation Area | Strong Indicator | Warning Sign |
| Portfolio | Detailed, recent vehicle projects | Only stock images |
| Workshop | Clean and climate-controlled | Outdoor installation |
| Preparation | Thorough cleaning and inspection | Immediate film application |
| Material disclosure | Series and brand clearly stated | Unidentified film |
| Warranty | Written terms and exclusions | Unclear verbal coverage |

There are several projects that are similar to your vehicle to review.
If a portfolio isn't a representation of the work you plan to order, it isn't really helpful. It's not as easy as wrapping a full-sized SUV, a complex sports-car bumper or a commercial van, or the vehicle with printed graphics.
Request photos of close-ups of:
- The use of bumpers and deep recesses.
- Doors: Handles and mirrors
- Rocker panels and wheel arches
- Edges and seams of the panels.
- Printed graphic alignment
- Photos of vehicles that have been used for long periods of time.
HEY FILM's vehicle film case gallery can set expectation for color consistency, the final vehicle finish, and overall vehicle presentation.

Look for any issues with the Installation Facility.
Vehicle wrapping should be done in a climate controlled, well-lit and clean environment. Surface preparation and adhesive properties can be affected by dust, wind, humidity and extreme temperatures.
The workshop needs to be large enough to open doors, strip the trim, get full film panels into the area and be able to view the vehicle from several different perspectives. Lighting should show trapped air, edge defects and uneven stretching of the product as well as contamination.
The use of film in the outdoor installation or when used in the vicinity of sanding and paint preparations can lead to particles being trapped below the film.
Please ensure that the exact film is to be installed.
Only 'premium wrap' is not a complete quotation. Should contain the manufacturer, product series, color, finish, roll width, batch information and intended outdoor usage period.
State if project is being done with automotive vinyl wrap or TPU paint protection film. Vinyl is mainly for colour changing and graphics, whereas PPF is used for greater protection against the elements of road debris, chips, scratches and stains.
Ask for a product data sheet and warranty. The installer should also be able to describe the capabilities of the film for full wraps, flat graphics, deep recesses, and/or complex curves.

Ask How Vehicle Will Be Prepared
It is not advisable to apply film right after a simple car wash. The preparation may consist of examination of the paint, decontamination, stripping of wax or paint coating, edge cleaning, drying and correction of appropriate imperfections.
Inquire about the removal of badges, mirrors, handles, lights, trim or bumpers. Disassembly can sometimes lead to cleaner edges, but breaking things to the point where the clips might break, wiring may get damaged or the items may have to be reassembled differently can cause problems.
Scratches, dents, painted areas (where they have been fixed), corrosion and peeling clear coat should be noted prior to the work. The company should ensure that they have the approval to carry out repairs or other services before doing so.
Assess the edge and cutting policy.
Many times the difference between a good and poor installation is apparent on the edges. Films should end neatly without being too full, being left with a noticeable dirt line or with any unnecessary seams.
Determine if vehicle-specific templates, cutting tape, hand trimming or a mix of these options are used for the installation. Technicians should adjust the depth of the knife on the vehicle in order to not cut through the paint if knives will be used.
The company should provide an explanation of:
- Which sides are going to be rolled up
- If seams must be made, in places where they are necessary.
- Recesses that will be visited
- Whether or not door jambs are part of the exterior.Including door jambs.
- How badges and sensors will be used and disposed of.
This information should be brought to collection, but not when and if it is initially discovered during installation.
Understand the Quotation
If not, a low estimate might not include any preparation, disassembly, removal of existing wrap, door jambs, design, lamination, taxes, or damaged clips.
A quotation is a useful quote that identifies:
- Create a film and product series.
- Panels or coverage was included in the list.
- Surface preparation
- Parts to be removed
- Create and print graphic designs.
- Installation labor
- Estimated completion time
- Warranty responsibility
Consider the overall price range, not the price alone. Learn how the construction of film, the glue used to adhere it to a surface, the finishes and the conditions of installation can impact a customization project with HEY FILM's guide to custom car vinyl wraps.
Provide separate Material & Installation Warranties.
The problems may concern different issues of the film manufacturer and installation company. Manufacturing defects could be covered by a material warranty and an installer can be held responsible for contamination, lifting edges, poor trimming or incorrect application.
Ask for terms in writing that include:
- Which defects are included?Which defects will be addressed?
- Who decides if a claim is true.Who judges a claim.
- Whether or not labour is considered part of the operational cost.
- What makes up a failure of coverage?
- The promptness of repairs
- The transfer of coverage to the next owner will be addressed.
HEY FILM’s technical and OEM/ODM support will provide information regarding coating, adhesive, TPU properties, customization and production to help installers and distributors make a material selection.
Before accepting a vehicle, ensure that it is inspected.
Look at the final product both in bright indoor lighting and daylight. Do not judge from a distance of at most a few metres.
Inspect wide panels for particles, bubbles, wrinkles, color difference, overstretch and graphics distortion. Look for cracks or gaps around the doors, lights, handles, mirrors, wheel arches and bumpers.
Verify that camera, sensors, handles, light, windows and charging port, and removed trim function properly. Make notes before taking delivery and get aftercare written documentation.

Select a Company that Documents its Work.
The quotation, vehicle-condition report, product information, warranty, care guide and final inspection record should be included in the car wrap and delivered by the professional installation company.
The company should also provide commercial fleets with artwork, Color Profiles, film codes, placement measurements and installation photos. This helps to ensure uniformity in repairs and fleet growth in the future.
Please get in touch with HEY FILM for film specifications, samples, custom colour, distributor support or supply cooperation.

| Vehicle Area | Inspection Method | Expected Result |
| Door edges | Open every door | Firm, clean edges |
| Bumpers | View from several angles | No overstretched patches |
| Recesses | Check under bright light | No lifting or bridging |
| Surface | Inspect at close range | No dust or wrinkles |
| Sensors and trim | Test normal operation | Correct fit and function |
FAQ
Q1. What is the time frame for professional car wrapping?
Timing will be dependent on vehicle size, vehicle coverage, design complexity, paint condition and vehicle disassembly. Normally a full wrap will take a longer time than a roof, hood or simple graphic installation.
Q2. Does a wrap company take parts off of a vehicle?
Some trimming could result in a more neat perimeter, but should only be done if required and by trained staff. For Quotation Approval: Questions to ask which components will be removed.
Q3. So, what should the car wrap warranty include?
The terms should be able to differentiate between film defects and installation issues. The coverage, exclusions, liabilities (and who is doing the work) and the claims process should be made available in writing.
Q4. Is it possible to put can over repaired paint?
May be able to be done after paint has completely cured and has good adhesion. The installer is advised that the repaired area(s) be inspected and the risk discussed prior to application.
Q5. How do you test a wrapped up product?Examine all panels, seams, edges, recesses and removed parts, using bright light. Test sensors, lights, handles, windows and cameras prior to accepting the vehicle.
